Pop star sex change

Pop star sex change

A European pop star underwent sex change surgery last year.

Kim Petras was born “Tim,” but always knew she was a girl trapped in a boy’s body. According to The Sun, Petras is the youngest person in the world to ever have to surgery.

“There wasn’t ever a moment when I decided not to be a boy any more. I was just always a girl.”

Ever since she was two, Kim’s parents Konni, 48, and Lutz, 51, were faced with the fact their youngest child – and only boy – insisted on being called a girl.

What I think is so interesting is that Kim literally grew us as though she were a girl. Her family allowed her to dress, act, and be portrayed as a she, not a he. Take a look at the Insider’s coverage of the sex change in the video below.

You know, before you write anything about a subject, you should really seek to educate your self a bit more on what is considered respectful and what is considered total BS and utterly offensive.

  2. What’s offensive or BS? If it’s my statement about how I think it’s interesting that she “grew up as though she were a girl,” I don’t understand how that’s offensive. Most of the trans people I know were not socially allowed to do that. That’s what I find interesting. How many families would allow their son to live life as a female?

I’d appreciate some feedback … because I’m not understanding your comment.

First of all, The Sun’s article and the Insider’s coverage, in genera, is quite problematic. That’s just a given.

As far as your comments go. . .Let’s do this piece by piece.

What you said is “what I think is so interesting is that Kim literally grew us as though she were a girl.”

That entire statement is very much invalidating of Kim’s identity. She is and was a girl despite anyone’s beliefs to the contrary. She, herself, has stated in various interviews of how she always felt like a girl and the issue was her “male” body.

Therefore, to state “her family allowed her to dress, act, and be portrayed as a she, not a he”, again goes to invalidate her identity. Yes, I can see where you were coming from with this statement. Her family could’ve made her life a living hell instead of actually listening to her, but the use of male pronouns and, again, a bit more condescension here is still very invalidating.

And finally “Take a look at the Insider’s coverage of the sex change in the video below.”

What exactly are you trying to say with this statement, because the Insider is covering Kim’s life, not her surgical procedure. Unless, of course, you are referring to Kim as a “sex change”, which would be entirely f**cked and offensive.

Furthermore, as far as transition goes for transgrender individuals, sex reassignment surgery is not the end all/be all, nor does it consist of one simply procedure that happens and then you are done, unless you want it to. It is a complex process that involves more that medical transition, but social transition as well. On top of all of that, somehow, I doubt Kim Petras is the youngest transsexual person in existence. That’s just bullocks.

I see what you’re saying now. I think this goes to show that even those of us who feel we are moderately educated still are not familiar with what language is and is not offensive to trans people. This is something I’ve discussed with many a folks.

Perhaps you’d be interested in giving our readers advice on how to communicate about trans issues?

I would be interested in speaking a bit more about this issue. I’m assuming that you can view my e-mail, so feel free to contact me through that channel if you would like some assistance.
