Gay or not, welcome!

Our Mission: GayInAthens.com works to provide a valuable, informative, and entertaining source of information for Athens, Georgia’s LGBT community while fostering a healthy relationship with our friends, allies, and the at-large community.

Inside the pages of Athens’ only Web site dedicated to LGBT interests you’ll find entertaining and educational articles on these and other topics: gay political interests, coming out stories, relationship advice, fashion and beauty tips, local events and happenings, downtown bars and music, gay friendly shops and businesses, religion, and the occasional fictional piece.

Among GayInAthens.com’s goals is to foster a relationship between the LGBT community in Athens and the community at large. As such, we gladly accept editorial submissions from any group looking to further the advancement of civil rights for all in Athens. Simply send your press release (with a photo or logo) to josh@gayinathens.com.

This Web site is the collaboration of many. You’ll enjoy frequent columns by local socialites, guest writers, interviews with average Joes (and experts in the field), and fiction from the creative minds of local writers.

Joshua Trey Barnett, Editor

Joshua Trey Barnett, Editor

Joshua Trey Barnett – Editor and Founder

Barnett is an Athens native, and the co-creator and editor of GayInAthens.com, Athens’ only Web site dedicated to LGBT interests. Inspired by the thriving and vibrant LGBT community in Athens, Barnett also owns JTB & Company, a marketing firm for small businesses, and is the former managing editor of the successful lifestyles magazine, Living Jackson. Currently, he spends his weekends helping kayakers at The Sandbar on the Broad River. An avid fly fisherman, he enjoys spending time outdoors fishing, hiking, and boating. Barnett is an active supporter of conservation and community initiatives and currently sits on a number of boards. Trout Unlimited, Keep Jackson County Beautiful, Jackson County Family Connection, the Friends of the Harold S. Swindle Public Library, the Jackson County March of Dimes, and other organizations keep Barnett busy. Visit JoshuaTreyBarnett.com for more info.

Carey – Web Guru and Founder

Carey is the technical genius behind GayInAthens.com, bringing years of Web design experience to the table. He is the owner of Thrasher Company, LLC, which offers a number of Web services.

Dustin Baker – Lead Political Blogger

Dustin Baker received his A.B. in political science from the University of Georgia and minored in women’s studies. He is currently working on his MPA at the University of Georgia. He is politically active and is the editor of GALiberal.com. He focuses much of his political activism on LGBT rights, community development, and government accountability. When he is not involved in campaigns or writing about politics, Dustin can be found at coffee shops, studying or enjoying life in Athens.

Hayden Darkwith – Writer

Hayden Darkwith has the unique job of pretending to be a heart-breaking consummate seducer and ethical slut while in reality being a WarCraft player in a happy relationship.  There are concerns that he’ll develop some split personality disorder and a fragment of his imagination will burn a swath of heart-broken destruction across the single gay Atlanta/Athens world, if his column hasn’t done it already by suggesting that his character, as written, actually exists. He could be Heidi Davison for all you know.
